Producer Pioneers educational music industry workshops for women producers

Producer Pioneers is a new event series presented by Classic Album Sundays and Resident Advisor, which will celebrate, educate and aim to inspire the next generation of women producers within the music industry. The four-part series will be free to attend, and will take place in October and November 2022 at Hackney’s Colour Factory in London.

Masterminded by DJ and producer, Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy, the series will unite some of the world’s most acclaimed women producers including Honey Dijon, Flava D, Emma-Jean Thackray and Lucinda Chua. Each live conversation will dive deep into their production methods, as well as explore what has inspired them in a series of interviews.

The first event starts with series founder Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy interviewing dance music icon Honey Dijon. Each following edition will then see a different presenter inviting inspirational women producers to explore the creation of seven specifically chosen tracks, detailing the production process and imparting essential wisdom to the audience.

Event Dates:

  • 18th October: Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy interviews Honey Dijon
  • 25th October: Raj Chaudhuri interviews Flava D
  • 1st November: DEBONAIR interviews Lucinda Chua
  • 8th November: Tina Edwards interviews Emma-Jean Thackray

Resident Advisor will also be working with Producer Pioneers to create a series of educational tools that will help women producers pursue careers within the music industry. The events themselves will also be recorded, and will become available on the Resident Advisor platform to be accessed by anyone, anywhere, at any time.

"As a DJ for over 3 decades, I’m pleased to have witnessed some major shifts in the representation of women in this vocation in the past couple of years. The profile-raising of women DJs and the affirmative action taken by many promoters has been a huge positive change and I’m delighted that the playing field is in the process of becoming more even. I feel now is the time to also highlight the women who make up the small 6% of the UK’s music producers.

"As I began producing 25 years ago, this pursuit is not only professional, but personal. Our Producer Pioneer series will celebrate the women who despite many challenges have made major inroads in this currently male-dominated arena. Our aim is to celebrate these women producers and to share their stories and advice to inspire other women to realise their own hidden talents. Together we can begin to level out this playing field, too." - Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy, DJ and Producer
