Touchscreen for digital audio workstations
The Red Leaf Audio TS32 is a touchscreen for Macs and PCs, designed especially for digital audio workstation users. It’s basically a 32-inch monitor mounted behind toughened glass and built in to a case that has an angled top panel similar to that of a mixing desk, allowing the user to reach the screen without having to stretch, as they would have to with a vertical touchscreen.
It connects directly to a Mac or PC via an HDMI or VGA video connection, with a USB link to carry the touchscreen data. The screen isn’t touch sensitive per se, as with some other products; instead, it uses a series of optical cameras to determine when and where the screen has been touched. This means that any object can be used on the surface, and full contact doesn’t even have to be made with the screen to break the surface beam of the touch-sensing system.
Applications and operating systems that support multiple simultaneous points of control are supported by the TS32. So, for example, full mixes of song projects can be automated in real time in compatible DAW applications running on computers with a multi-touch-compliant OS, such as Windows 7 or the forthcoming ‘Snow Leopard’ version of Mac OS.
