If you’ve gone out and got yourself an iPhone 6S in the pre-Christmas madness, then there is an app that you immediately require. It’s called Noise and it’s from British-based instrument makers ROLI, the makers of the innovative Seaboard.
The app is a free download, available now from the App Store, and could offer the most expressive music-making experience on the iPhone yet. Taking advantage of the new 3D Touch technology of the iPhone 6S, the surface lets music makers shape sound through Strike, Press, Glide, Slide, and Lift — the so-called “Five Dimensions of Touch ” that have been so celebrated on ROLI’s award-winning Seaboard RISE controller. If you don’t have the latest iPhone, fear not, as there are also plenty of performance controls available and it’s compatible with everything back to the iPhone 5.
As a standalone instrument Noise features 25 keywaves (shrinkable to 17 or 13), includes 25 sounds (with another 100 available via in-app purchase), and has five faders for fine tuning the touch-responsiveness of the surface. If you don’t have
Noise is also the ultimate portable sound engine for the Seaboard RISE and other MIDI controllers. Powered by Equator and using MIDI over Bluetooth, Noise lets musicmakers control sounds wirelessly from their iPhones. It is one of the first apps to enable Multidimensional Polyphonic Expression (MPE) through its MPE Mode, so the NOISE mobile sound engine works with any MPE compatible controller.
