Sound On Sound join UK Macworld magazine for music event

Get more from your Mac with this SOS co-sponsored advice session

NOTE: This seminar has been rescheduled. See this news item for more information.

The UK’s Macworld magazine, in association with Sound On Sound, will present a dedicated seminar on making music with a Mac later this year. Titled Macworld On Sound, the event will cover the latest tips and techniques for music-making on a Mac, and place attendees face to face with a panel of Mac experts and music producers.
Speakers will include Sound On Sound Editor In Chief Paul White and former SOS columnist Paul Farrer (now a successful media composer), as well as Macworld music columnist Mike Collins.
Topics covered will include techniques for leading Mac music software packages (including Logic and Pro Tools), and tutorial sessions on processor plug-ins and virtual instruments, Macs and OS X. There will be case studies from Paul Farrer, a briefing on related developments such as using Rewire with Reason and Ableton’s Live within Pro Tools, and a host of other tips and techniques to help you make music (and money!) with your Mac. A music-technology Q&A session will address questions such as:
• How can you record a professional-sounding vocal at home?
• How do software instruments compare with traditional hardware synths and samplers?
• Can a piece of software like Logic really replace an entire professional recording studio?
• Other than the computer and software, what else do I need to make and record music?
• Do I need special speakers to mix, or can I use my hi-fi?
• Do I need to work in a room with special acoustic treatment?
The event takes place in Camden at Lock 17 (formerly Dingwalls), 11 East Yard, Camden Lock, London, NW1 8AF, from 10am to 4pm, and costs £82 including VAT. Attendees will also receive a free book worth £34.99; either A Professional Guide To Audio Plug-ins And Virtual Instruments, or Choosing & Using Audio & Music Software, according to preference (and availability).
