Techivation launch M-Compressor

Offers both upward & downward compression

Techivation M-Compressor spectral upward downward compression plug-in

The latest addition to Techivation’s M-series plug-ins has arrived, offering both upward and downward compression and focusing on delivering clean, distortion-free dynamics processing that will suit a wide variety of sources. M-Compressor also utilises spectral processing, and applies compression based on individual frequency level rather than an overall signal level.

As the plug-in combines both upward and downward compression, there are a pair of Threshold and Ratio controls, allowing different amounts of processing to be applied to signals that fall below or above the defined thresholds. Detailed visual feedback is provided by a spectrum display, which is followed by level meters for the input, difference and output signals. M-Compressor’s Attack and Release parameters are shared between the two compressor types, and the Make Up (gain) control can be operated in automatic or manual modes. A Character section then offers an Intensity control that alters the compression knee, and a Punch dial, which controls how much transients are emphasised.

The plug-in features a Sidechain HP function, which allows users to insert a variable 10 to 100 Hz high-pass filter into the compressor’s side-chain, along with an Ext. Sidechain function which can be used to trigger downward compression using an external signal. There are also switches to audition the difference and side-chain signals in isolation. A Stereo Link facility defines how M-Compressor reacts to stereo signals, with 0% treating each channel completely independently, and 100% linking the spectral thresholds together in order to preserve the original signal’s stereo image. The control is continuously variable, allowing users to find a balance that best suits their material.

As with many of Techivation’s offerings, the plug-in features a scaleable GUI, and comes equipped with utility features such as built-in A/B comparison tools, undo and redo functions and a Tooltip option that will provide a quick explanation of each control section when the mouse cursor is hovered over it.

Compatibility

M-Compressor is supported on PCs running Windows 7 or above, and Macs running macOS 10.9 and higher. It is available in VST, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in formats.

Pricing & Availability

M-Compressor is available now, and is being offered for an introductory price of $55 until 31 October 2023, after which it will cost $149. During the same period, owners of other premium Techivation plug-ins can purchase M-Compressor for $45, and those who own all of the company’s plug-ins will pay $35.
