UA’s Apollo X to receive surround sound capabilities

Professional surround features added to premium audio interfaces

The Universal Audio Apollo X graces the front cover of the November 2018 issue of Sound On Sound magazine but one feature that wasn’t quite ready when we reviewed the interfaces was surround sound monitoring.

With a software update due in December, and free to existing users, Universal Audio will implement a raft of professional surround sound features including routing and monitor level calibration with +/- 10dB of trim. The trim feature is, of course, also useful for those working in stereo in order to compensate for abnormalities in your room.

The monitor section in the Apollo control software also lets you solo and mute any speakers in the system, allowing you to isolate issues and offers fold-down options for checking a surround mix in stereo and even mono.

SOS Features Editor Sam Inglis gets the lowdown at the AES Show in New York.
