Universal Audio have announced the launch of a new Unison-enabled plug-in that offers all the features of the hardware 6176 Channel Strip along with an additional compressor option. LA‑6176 Signature Channel Strip packs in an emulation of the renowned 610 valve preamp and 1176 FET compressor found in the original hardware unit, but also throws an LA-2A into the mix.
The plug-in promises to offer all of the character of the original hardware — a popular unit famed for its ability to add warmth and presence to a wide variety of sources — but with the handy option of switching out its fast, punchy 1176LN compressor section for the slower, more gentle sound of the LA-2A.
As well as being available natively as a UADx plug-in, it also comes in UAD-2 compatibility, meaning it can be run on UA’s range of DSP accelerators and Apollo audio interfaces. What’s more, its Unison functionality allows it to modify the input impedance and gain staging of Apollo interfaces to replicate the specifications of the original hardware, promising a sound that’s indistinguishable from an all-analogue channel strip.
“This is really a 'what if we just...' type of plug-in. It started out as a 100% faithful emulation of our original 6176 Channel Strip in celebration of its 20th anniversary. But our team couldn't help but add in the LA-2A circuitry that we couldn't actually fit into our 2U channel strip in the physical world." - Bill Putnam Jr., CEO, Universal Audio
Compatibility
LA-6176 Signature Channel Strip is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or above, and Macs running macOS 10.15 and higher. VST, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.
