LSS Sampling Masterclass

28th July 2007
Following the successful London School of Sound (LSS) Art & Science of Mixing masterclass, the audio college have announced the third in its series of one-day special events, this time looking at the topic of Sampling and Copyright. Taking place on Saturday 28 July 2007, the session will be held in the main studio of LSS at 35 Britannia Row, London N1 8QH.

Topics covered will include:
 •    The most sampled record in history — can you guess?
 •    Pushing the boundaries of technology: sampling as a synthesis technique.
 •    From Mellotrons to MPC to Kontakt: the evolution of sampling instruments.
 •    When is it better not to use a sampler? Practical demonstrations.
 •    Copyright, and when to start worrying about legal issues.
 •    How much can you get away with when it comes to clearing samples?
 •    Why the law matters, and a few examples of how things can go wrong.
 •    Clearing samples — how not to do it, and how to do it correctly and save money.
 •    Alternatives to traditional sampling, sample recreation and other ideas.

LSS say that the lecture is aimed at anyone involved in the creation of sample-based music, but it will also interest other music industry professionals. They also say that anyone interested in the impact that sampling has had on culture and society will also find the session beneficial. Class size is limited to 14 people, so book early.
