LIMS 2009: Open Labs DBeat (Video)

First UK showing of latest tool for electronic musicians

The London International Music Show will see the first UK showing of Open Labs' DBeat, which will begin shipping a day before the start of the show!

At its most basic level, the DBeat is a PC in a box that also houses hardware controllers for interacting with software. Get your head around this concept, and it’s a supremely powerful tool for live electronic musicians and DJs.

The centrepiece of the device is a 12‑inch touch screen that allows the user to command software running on the system with their fingertips. There are banks of faders, pads and knobs that can be freely assigned to software parameters, and DJ‑specific controls, such as a crossfader and deck control, enable quick and easy control over virtual turntable software. There’s even a dock that can be used to directly connect an iPod as an additional playback source. The device has four inputs and six outputs, thanks to its built‑in Presonus Firebox audio interface, and front panel controls for headphones and monitor levels.

Being a straightforward PC inside, the Open Labs DBeat will run any Windows‑compatible DAW, plug‑in or virtual instrument application, and there’s a 320GB hard drive on‑board for sample libraries and audio project files. The DBeat comes supplied with a full version of Ableton Live and over 7000 sounds.
