ARX USB I/O

No-frills audio interface

ARX have released a new audio interface in the same diminutive format as their USB-DI and DI-VC DI boxes. Called the USB I/O, it’s a small USB bus-powered steel box, designed to provide clean stereo I/O with the minimum of signal degradation. It’s most likely to appeal to laptop users seeking a hard-wearing plug-and-play interface; for use in a cramped recording space, for example. The unit houses two XLR inputs and a pair of XLR outputs, as well as a ground lift switch, which is the only adjustable control. Using transformer-isolated inputs and outputs, the USB I/O should effectively eliminate ground-loop problems that can occur when connecting a soundcard to other devices. A-D/D-A converters in the unit are fixed at 16bit word length, 48kHz sample rate.

The interface is hand-made in Australia, and costs $395 in the US, with a UK price still to be announced.
