ProSat & ProSub added to the roster
Acoustic Energy Professional, or AE Pro for short, have added to their range of loudspeakers the ProSat and ProSub, which together make up a new compact active monitoring system.
Available in 2.1 and 5.1 configurations, the new system is designed to offer similar time-domain and distortion performance as the much lauded AE22, which we reviewed in SOS May 2008 (and on-line at www.soundonsound.com/sos/may08/articles/acousticenergyae22.htm).
As suggested by its name, the ProSat is the main ‘satellite’ speaker of the system, comprising a five-inch low-frequency and mid-range driver and a one-inch tweeter, which uses a dual-concentric diaphragm described by AE as a ‘ring radiator’. (For more details, check out the review of the AE22, which uses the same tweeter.)
Power is provided by 50 Watt and 25 Watt amplifiers for the low- and high-frequency drivers respectively, with the crossover operating with a centre frequency of 2kHz. The monitor has balanced and unbalanced inputs, with controls for input sensitivity, low-frequency extension and high-frequency equalisation.
The ProSub supplies infra-bass information down to 25Hz, according to AE’s figures, using a 200 Watt amplifier and a pair of 10-inch drivers mounted in a sealed enclosure. Its on-board crossover can be set to 75Hz or 100Hz, and up to five ProSats can be connected to the outputs. Controls on the Pro Sub enable its level to be varied between -30dB and +6dB, the phase to be reversed and the crossover frequency to be selected.
Prices for the system were being finalised at the time of writing; AE say that the ProSat and ProSub should be available during the first quarter of 2009.
