Arturia have announced the launch of the MiniFreak Vocoder Edition, a new special-edition version of their popular compact hybrid polysynth that offers a wealth of new sounds thanks to a dedicated vocoder engine.
Everything that made the original instrument so popular remains (if you’re not familiar with the MiniFreak, you can check out our review here), but with the addition of a 16-band vocoder engine that’s capable of processing both internal and external sources. It’s possible to achieve classic voice effects by combining synth patches with an incoming vocal — the Vocoder Edition comes supplied with a gooseneck mic that can be connected to its external audio input — and more dramatic sounds are on offer thanks to a set of four dedicated effects modes and the instrument’s modulation matrix.
Take a look at the video below to hear the MiniFreak Vocoder Edition being put to work in a live performance by vocalist Daniela Pes.
