This year marks the 50th anniversary of Audio-Technica’s first pair of headphones, and the company are celebrating the milestone with the release of a new pair of open-back cans. Handcrafted in Tokyo, the ATH-ADX3000 build on the success of the ATH-ADX5000, and promise to deliver a natural, authentic soundstage at a more affordable price.
Designed to bring the sound of Audio-Technica’s flagship headphones to a wider audience, the ATH-ADX3000 employ 58mm integrate drivers that combine the diaphragm, voice coil, baffle and magnet into a single unit, a move which the company say results in improved airflow and full-range audio reproduction with minimal distortion. The driver units are produced by AT at their facility in Machida, Tokyo, allowing them to ensure they are manufactured to the highest possible standard.
As important as audio performance is with a pair of headphones, they also need to be comfortable to wear. As well as carefully selecting the components used in the ATH-ADX3000, the company’s engineers have paid equal attention to their physical construction, which boasts a minimal, lightweight magnesium alloy frame design and utilises high-quality breathable fabric on both the earcups and headband.
The ATH-ADX3000 come supplied in a hard carry case, and feature detachable cables that use the company’s propietary A2DC (Audio Designed Detatchable Coaxial) connector.
“Our engineers worked hard to achieve frequencies that are not easy to obtain with natural airflow. Our expertise in driver technology has influenced our approach to open-back headphones, enabling us to ensure the diaphragm moves with the purest motion.” - Hiromichi Ozawa, Lead Engineer, Audio-Technica
