Cableguys have teamed up with electronic music pioneer 'BT' (Brian Transeau - read SOS interview) to create a new plug-in dedicated to crafting layered drum sounds. Once instantiated on a track, Snapback will detect incoming drum hits and automatically layer additional perfectly-timed samples, offering a quick and easy way to add some impact to underwhelming hits.

Over 200 samples created by artists such as BT, Virtual Riot, Goldbaby and Cyclick are included, and users are free to import their own favourite sounds and store them alongside the factory selection. Samples can be added and sync’ed to incoming hits via a dedicated Transient layer, and the built-in library comes kitted out with sounds specifically designed for adding some attack and weight to the likes of kicks and snares, as well as some more unusual offerings such as vocal cuts and foley.
The plug-in’s name refers to its second sample layer, which can be used to place a reverse hit in front of the main sample in order to create lively, animated drums. As with the Transition layer, everything lines up automatically with no need for any manual editing. The plug-in does provide users with control over samples’ attack and release times, as well as filtering, timing and pitch controls, so there’s plenty of additional control on offer for those who do wish to fine-tune the results.
Compatibility
Snapback is supported on PCs running Windows 7 and above, and Macs running macOS 10.13 or later. VST2, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.

Snapback is available now, and is currently (25 October 2024) being offered at an introductory price of $€29, reduced from its full cost of $€49. It’s also included in the Cableguys Bundle (alongside other plug-ins such as ShaperBox, HalfTime, FilterShaper XL and more) which is currently on sale for $€149.
