Avid buy Euphonix

Avid, the audio and video post-production specialists whose brands include Digidesign, M-Audio and Sibelius, have added another company to their portfolio: Euphonix.Best known for their digital mixers and control surfaces, Euphonix’s acquisition would appear to be of most interest to Pro Tools users, and video editors using Avid’s Composer and Symphony platforms, who might hope for new DAW and non-linear editor controllers further down the line, which build upon Euphonix’s control surface technology.

Avid say that they plan to develop a new protocol to allow Euphonix controllers to communicate with Pro Tools, Composer and “a wide range” of third-party applications, though users of existing Euphonix products apparently have nothing to fear: Avid intend to continue to support EuCon, the communication protocol employed by Euphonix’s current range of controllers.
