Boss have released the FS-1-WL, a wireless multi-function foot controller that can be used to control digital music score apps, DAW functions, supported Boss and Roland gear, and a range of MIDI pedals, processors, or hardware.
The FS-1-WL is capable of sending keyboard commands to smartphones, tablets, and computers via Bluetooth and is supplied with three pre-loaded setups for popular apps. Customisation for nearly any software application or MIDI device is also possible courtesy of a dedicated editor/librarian application, which allows the device’s switches to be configured to send single or multiple keystokes, as well as MIDI CC and Program Change messages. The app is available for Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android platforms, and provides the ability to save and recall multiple configurations to suit different uses.
When combined with the company’s Bluetooth Audio MIDI Dual Adaptor, the device can be used to change presets, control effects, and more on Boss products such as the Pocket GT, Katana-Air, Waza-Air, and the GX-100. The FS-1-WL also supports communication with Roland’s WM-1 Wireless MIDI Adaptor and WM-1D Wireless MIDI Dongle, allowing it to control MIDI hardware devices and computers that are not equipped with built-in Bluetooth support.
The FS-1-WL can be expanded with up to two additional footswitches and an expression pedal.
The FS-1-WL can be expanded by connecting up to two additional external footswitches, which can then be configured to transmit either MIDI messages or keyboard commands. There is also an input for an external expression pedal, allowing for continuous parameter control of any device that responds to MIDI CC messages. Wired MIDI connectivity is provided by both a 3.5mm mini-jack socket, and a USB-B port.
Power can be delivered by either an optional external DC power supply, or two AAA batteries. Expected battery life under continuous use is stated as 14 hours, although will vary depending on the usage conditions. The device measures 207 x 77 x 32 mm. Other optional extras include the FS-5U, FS-7, and FS7 footswitches, and a range of TRS/MIDI breakout cables.
