Two new digital pianos have recently joined Casio’s Celviano range, each designed to combine a sleek, elegant cabinet design with the sound and feel of a grand piano. The AP‑300 and AP‑S200 are both entry-level models that have inherited the acoustic and electronic technologies used across the range, promising to deliver a similar immersive playing experience at a lower cost.
Both the AP-300 and AP-S200 are equipped with the company’s Smart Scaled Hammer Action Keyboard, which features delicate touch sensitivity that has been designed to capture subtle playing nuances in the same way as an acoustic grand piano. The action mechanism is based on the weight of the hammers, and changes the level of touch sensitivity according to how strongly the keys are played. Casio say that the key response is digitally simulated and meticulously designed for each key, allowing the instruments to provide a highly realistic playing experience. Their physical construction has then been designed in a way that allows sound from the speaker to naturally diffuse outwards from different parts of the cabinet, creating a rich and expansive audio experience that emulates a real grand.
Each model is supplied with a WU-BT10 Wireless MIDI & Audio Adaptor, allowing users to connect their instrument to a smart device and easily adjust tones and settings such as the keyboard’s touch response using the dedicated Casio Music Space mobile app. As well as playing along to a selection of built-in orchestral tracks, it’s possible for the piano to function as a Bluetooth speaker and play back tracks from a connected device.
