Blinksonic have recently launched a new Reaktor-based tool which they say takes a radical departure from your average audio software. Described as a “procedural stems smasher and recomposition engine”, ECLO.RE/GEN offers a ‘mini-DAW’ experience that allows users to transform their stems and loops into “radical, non-linear patterns where mechanical failure becomes the groove.”
Expanding on the company’s interactive ECLO.RE PLAYER series, the new arrival is dedicated to turning existing material into new and interesting forms. It revolves around a multitrack architecture that offers simultaneous playback of four audio files and offers a combination of a looping system and a set of per-track performance controls. A set of built-in sounds are provided, and users are free to import their own samples.
There are two looper engines included, each of which offer a distinct approach. The first can be used to create loops of up to 64 bars, with it’s start point defined by the current playhead position; the second, which is described as a ‘gesture looper’, is dedicated to shorter phrases and offers hands-on control via an X-Y pad. Each track is equipped with dedicated level, filter, effects send and balance controls, along with scratch, reverse and speed functions, while a set of eight marker points make it easy for users to quickly jump between playback positions. Thanks to a MIDI looper, it’s possible to capture and play back different triggers, as well as record punch-in effects and parameter changes.
Other tools include a 16-slot sequencer that’s capable of hosting snapshots that recall the entire state of the instrument, and features a Populate function that will automatically fill the slots with snapshots created by ECLO.RE/GEN’s randomisation engine. A generous selection of onboard effects are provided, too, with dedicated Retuner and Resynthesis slots joined by an assignable slot that offers a choice of reverbs, resonators, modulated delay and distortion processors.
Key Features
- Dynamic Recomposition: Use a dual-looper architecture (Instant & Micro-Gesture) to generate ‘non-metric’ rhythms and chaotic breaks that bounce back on themselves.
- Playhead & Cue Manipulation: Take total control of time with eight playable cue points per track. Real-time offset shifting and quantised grid-snapping allow you to jump, stutter and play your waveforms like an instrument.
- Surgical Sound Design: Equipped with a high-end DSP chain including FFT Autotune (24 scales), Spectral Resynthesis and a commutable FX slot (Spring, Resonator, Space, Mod Delay, Distortion).
- Human Gesture vs. Linear Logic: Record manual ‘Punch-In’ triggers on the fly. Capture the physical, unquantised energy of your performance and loop it instantly.
- Meta-Sequencing (The Arranger): Instead of sequencing notes, you sequence ‘States’ (Snapshots). Use the 16-slot Arranger to instantly program a full scenario of snapshots.
- The Populate Engine: Don't spend hours programming variations — generate them in seconds. Instantly generate massive banks of up to 127 unique snapshots. With a few clicks, the engine ‘takes pictures’ of randomised states, providing an infinite source of evolution.
- Cyberpunk Aesthetics: a completely updated 3D audio-reactive system provides real-time visual feedback, with shaders and scopes that respond to every micro-glitch and MIDI pulse.
Compatibility
ECLO.RE/GEN runs in Native Instruments Reaktor 6.5.0 or higher, which is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or higher, and Macs running macOS 11 and above. VST3, AU and AAX plug-ins are available, along with a standalone application.
Pricing & Availability
ECLO.RE/GEN is available now, priced at €89.
