The latest kit from DPA combines a pair of the company’s 2015 Wide Cardioid Microphones with a selection of hardware designed specifically for piano-miking duties. Logically named the DPK2015 Piano Stereo Kit, the new bundle has been designed to simplify the task of capturing a piano without compromising on quality, and promises to offer a faster setup time and greater sonic precision than any other plug-and-play piano solution.
Built around a stereo pair of 2015s, the DPK2015 includes a selection of purpose-built mounts and accessories that allow for secure, vibration-free mounting with a broad range of placements, all of which can be rigged within minutes whether the instrument’s lid is open or closed. As you’d expect from DPA, the kit has been designed to deliver a natural, balanced stereo image that faithfully captures the true complexities of a piano’s sound, from the delicate nuances of a classical performance to the dynamic range that’s typical of genres such as pop and jazz.
“Miking a piano has long been one of the most challenging tasks for sound engineers, requiring careful placement, stable mounting and precise tonal balance to capture the instrument’s true character. The DPK2015 eliminates this complexity by providing peace of mind for engineers, regardless of expertise level, piano type, music genre, production style and environment/surroundings. It delivers stress-free, ready-to-use simplicity, along with DPA’s stunning sonic precision and natural imaging. It’s the perfect marriage of convenience, flexibility and uncompromising quality.” - Helga Volha Somava, Product Management Director, DPA Microphones
Along with the two 2015s, the DPK2015 includes a pair of GM1500 Gooseneck Mounts, DAO2015 Microphone Cables with XLR connectors, an SB0400 Lightweight Stereo Boom, DUA0020 Foam Widescreens and a compact protective case.
