The latest versions of the ever-popular Gina and Layla soundcards make their debut
Echo Digital Audio have unveiled their ‘third-generation’ Gina and Layla soundcards — Gina 3G and Layla 3G.
The PCI-based soundcards, which are Mac- and PC-compatible, are now augmented by rather stylish brushed-aluminium breakout boxes, providing phantom-powered mic inputs and quarter-inch, balanced inputs and outputs.
Both systems offer co-axial and optical S/PDIF input and output, optical ADAT input and output, a MIDI In and Out and a front-panel headphone output with its own volume knob. Both also feature two inputs on the front panel with individual trim knobs, three-LED input level meters, and phantom power, and are capable of accepting mic, line or instrument inputs, automatically adjusting accordingly.
In addition to these two analogue inputs, the compact Gina 3G breakout box has six balanced analogue outputs and, including the digital I/O, supports simultaneous 10-channel audio input and 14-channel output.
The 1U Layla 3G breakout box (pictured below) has an extra six balanced analogue inputs (in addition to the two front-panel inputs) and eight balanced analogue outputs, adding up to simultaneous 16-in, 16-out operation. Layla 3G also has a word clock input and output, though both units can also sync via S/PDIF, ADAT or MTC.
And on top of this generous feature set, the Gina 3G and Layla 3G are priced competitively too: £329 and £429 respectively.
