Heritage Audio have announced the launch of a new headphone amp that they say becomes the first in the world to offer impedance matching. In addition to accepting balanced and unbalanced line-level inputs, the OHM Amp features a built-in Bluetooth receiver, and offers a choice of six different impedances to ensure the best possible performance with a wide range of headphone models.
The amplifier design is based on that of Heritage’s RAM System 2000 and 5000 monitor controllers, and employs high-quality components throughout its signal path as well as benefitting from a low-noise, high-voltage PSU. The company say that it offers excellent technical performance, and will be capable of delivering the best possible sound with everything from the cheapest low-impedance earbuds to high-end headphones.
Along with rotary switch that offers the switchable impedance values (Low, 32, 30, 80 250 and 600 Ω), the front panel includes a trio of buttons that allow users to select between balanced, unbalanced and Bluetooth inputs, along with an output level control that utilises an Alps ‘Blue Velvet’ potentiometer. Helpfully, both quarter-inch and 3.5mm headphone outputs are provided on the front panel, eliminating the need for adapters.

Around on the rear panel you’ll find balanced and unbalanced line-level inputs (provided on XLR/TRS combo and RCA sockets, respectively) along with an antenna for the Bluetooth connection. There’s also a line-level output provided by a pair of quarter-inch TRS sockets, which can be used to chain multiple units together as well as allowing the OHM Amp to function as a high quality Bluetooth receiver — the input utilises a Burr Brown D-A converter, and supports high-quality wireless codecs such as APTX, APTX LL, AAC, APTX HD and SBC.
As well as functioning as a desktop unit, the OHM Amp is fitted with a threaded mounting point that allows it to be fixed to a microphone stand.
