Heritage Audio’s latest announcement introduces two new single- and dual-channel DI box designs and brings a total of four new products to their hardware range. The first of the two is a passive unit equipped with a custom transformer, whilst the second is an active box that employs a signal path based on the company’s 1073-inspired preamp units.
The passive P DI One and P DI 2 are said to deliver a clean, transparent sound, with Heritage Audio relying on the expertise in passive signal-path design that was accrued during the development of their RAM monitor controller range, particularly the popular Baby RAM. Its power-free design uses a custom transformer to carry out the necessary impedance conversion and balancing, whilst also offering the added benefit of blocking unwanted DC voltages and protecting against RFI.
The 73 DI One and 73 DI 2 then feature an active design and employ a J109 JFET input stage that presents an input impedance of 2.2MΩ, along with a metal-can 2n3055 output transistor that feeds a custom transformer. The design promises to enhance the natural sound of an instrument in the same way a vintage-style preamp affects a mic signal, allowing for creative use on sources such as guitars, basses, keyboards, synths, drum machines and more.
