HHB launch mic with built-in digital recorder

The battery-powered Flash Mic DRM85 features 1GB storage
HHB's latest location recording device is an omni-directional condenser mic offering up to 18 hours of audio recording to built-in flash memory.

The Flash Mic DRM85 is completely self-contained, runs for over six hours on a pair of AA batteries and records with the push of a button.

The small backlit LCD screen displays recording time and status, input level and battery status, and the base of the mic features a mini-jack headphone output, a rotary menu control and a USB port for transferring files to a Mac or PC.

The Flash Mic can record in 16-bit linear PCM (WAV) format at 32 or 48 kHz, and in compressed MPEG 2 format at bit rates ranging from 128 to 384 kbps. It has 1GB of built-in flash memory.

Nine user presets can be configured in detail via the Mac- and PC-compatible Flash Mic Manager software and then selected from the mic itself. Settings include pre-record buffer size, record volume, AGC (Automatic Gain Control) on/off and high-pass filter on/off.

The mic features a high-quality Sennheiser omni-directional condenser capsule with a frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz and less than 0.1 percent THD.

It's set to cost £821 including VAT and will be available in January.

The Flash Mic DRM85 was launched at the IBC show in Amsterdam, where HHB also unveiled two new accessories for the Portadrive location sound sound recorder. The new NPL7 lithium ion rechargeable battery boosts the time for which the Portadrive can be continuously operated from two hours to around three, and will be fitted as standard in all new Portadrives. Available as an optional accessory, the new PDRDC80 80GB removable HDD caddy can store 9.5 hours of eight-channel, uncompressed, 24-bit/96kHz audio and is double the size of the standard caddy.
