Imaginando have announced the launch of a new plug-in that promises to take granular processing to new creative heights. GRFX is a flexible and expressive sound-design tool that breaks down and rebuilds incoming audio, creating everything from evolving pads and drones to glitchy rhythms and alien-sounding landscapes.
GRFX Granular Effects centres around a Harmonic Triangle, an interactive triangular map that features a ±12 semitone pitch-shift value at each of its three corners. Control over the generated grains is provided by a draggable handle, which determines a pitch based on its proximity to the three values — users are free to set their own values manually, or select a pre-defined chord thanks to a set of 32 build-in triad presets. There’s also a Fixed Pitch mode that updates grains with a new fixed pitch value each time the handle is moved, creating a range of melodic phrases and arpeggios.
The plug-in comes equipped with a wealth of modulation capabilities, boasting four independent LFOs that can be assigned to almost any parameter. Users are able to set up their routing by simple clicking and dragging an LFO waveform to the parameter they wish to modulate, and it’s even possible to cross-modulate two LFOs using the same method. All active modulation routings can be viewed, edited or removed using a dedicated Modulation panel. Keen sound designers will be pleased to see a pair of multi-effects units that each offer a choice of Filter, Distortion, Delay, 2x Peak EQ, Chorus, Phaser, Bitcrusher and Reverb modules, along with Delay and Reverb sections that can be configured to run as send-based effects.
Compatibility
GRFX is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or higher, and Macs running macOS 12 and above. VST, VST3 and AU plug-in versions are available.

GRFX is available now, and is being offered at an introductory price of €29 until 30 April 2025, when it will increase to €39.
