Ludwig have introduced a new range of snare drums that takes its inspiration from the company's legendary Black Beauty snare drum, one of the most famous models in history. In creating the Black Magic range, Ludwig were looking to design a drum for today's more aggressive musical styles and, as such, have incorporated features to help maximise volume and resonance.
The shell is constructed in the same way as the Black Beauty — a single sheet of brass is machine drawn and spun into a seamless, beaded drum, which is finished in black-nickel plating. Hoops are die-cast to give increased volume and the vintage tube-style lugs help the shell resonate more fully. The Black Magic snares are available in three sizes: 14 x 5-inch, 14 x 6.5-inch and a very distinctive 13 x 7-inch, which promises to be both loud and very focused. Prices start from £379.
