M Audio get ready for Longhorn

Beta 64-bit audio drivers released in preparation for Microsoft’s forthcoming new OS
In an attempt to stay one step ahead of the competition, M Audio have released beta-version 64-bit audio drivers, named Audio64, for their Delta- and Firewire-series audio interfaces, making them fully compatible with Microsoft’s forthcoming Longhorn operating system (expected in 2006), in addition to the current set of operating systems.
In SOS July 2004’s PC Notes column, we reported that Microsoft were encouraging hardware developers to start writing 64-bit drivers early so as to aid a smooth transition to Longhorn — clearly, M Audio are keen to help! In fact, it looks like they’re the first of their peers to do so.
Developed for the AMD Opteron processor, whose architecture supports both 32- and 64-bit computing, the Audio64 beta drivers can be downloaded from www.m-audio.com/audio64beta and user feedback is warmly encouraged.
Elsewhere in the world of M Audio, prices across the entire Delta soundcard range have been cut. The new prices are as follows:
• Delta 1010 — £399;
• Delta 1010LT — £199;
• Delta 66 — £159;
• Delta 44 — £129;
• Delta Audiophile 2496 — £69.
The new prices are effective immediately.
