Micpedia microphone-data.com website rebranded microphone technical physical information database compare research

Odratek BV have announced the launch of Micpedia, an online database that provides a wealth of technical information on almost 4500 models of microphone. The resource is free to use, and is based on data that was previously available on the Microphone Data website.

The website offers physical specifications and electrical characteristics for current and past models from 220 of the world’s leading microphone manufacturers, including the complete production catalogues of Neumann, Microtech Gefell, Schoeps, Audio-Technica, AKG, AEA, DPA, Sony, Royer, and Rode. The information has been sourced from each manufacturer's published data, and has been normalised and presented on the website in the same units.

Frequency response, sensitivity information, graphs and polar plots, maximum SPL handling, self-noise figures, impedance and recommended load information, powering and connector options, valve information, pads and filters, physical characteristics, and accessories lists are all available, and up to four microphones can be displayed side-by-side using the website’s Compare feature.

Registered users are also now able to keep an inventory of their own collections, with a Lockers feature providing a convenient way to annotate the data with information such as purchase dates, prices, and serial numbers. There are also plans to introduce a Shootout Gallery, which will allow community members to upload audio samples of their own microphone comparisons to be evaluated in blind tests. The website will also host an extensive collection of guides, recommendations, and articles written by some of the audio industries leading experts, all of which will be published in weekly installments.
