NAMM 2026: Dangerous Music debut BAX500

Single-slot 500-series EQ based on the BAX EQ

Dangerous Music BAX500

Dangerous Music have announced the BAX500, a single-slot 500-series equaliser that brings the core design and sonic approach of the company’s 19-inch BAX EQ into a compact modular format. Designed by Chris Muth, the BAX500 is intended for tracking, mixing and mastering applications where broad, high-fidelity tonal shaping is required without imposing a strong sonic character.

Dangerous Music BAX500The BAX500 combines wide Baxandall-style high and low shelving EQ with dedicated High Cut and Low Cut filters, allowing control of frequency extremes while maintaining a clean and open signal path. The shelving bands operate across multiple octaves, enabling subtle adjustments that affect overall balance, depth and clarity, while the filters are designed to remove infrasonic and ultrasonic content that can reduce headroom or impact translation.

As with other Dangerous Music hardware, the BAX500 is built around a DC-coupled signal path up to the Low Cut filter and features a relay-controlled hard-wired bypass that fully removes the circuit from the signal path for accurate A/B comparison. The module uses mastering-grade custom components and is hand-assembled in the USA with point-to-point wiring inside a fully shielded enclosure.

The BAX500 can be used on individual sources or as a matched pair for stereo bus and mastering duties, offering the same fundamental approach as the rackmount BAX EQ in a 500-series format suitable for modular studio systems.
