beyerdynamic have announced the release of HEADPHONE LAB, a new free studio plug-in designed to bring the sound and spatial realism of a professional loudspeaker monitoring environment to the company's headphones.
HEADPHONE LAB aims to recreate the experience of studio loudspeakers by combining crossfeed processing with head-related transfer functions (HRTFs), accounting for frequency-dependent timing and level differences between the ears. This approach is said to deliver a more natural stereo image with improved depth and localisation compared to conventional headphone monitoring, while a dedicated low-frequency processing method ensures accurate bass reproduction without phase artefacts.
The plug-in also applies model-specific optimisation for supported beyerdynamic headphones, aligning each model to a proprietary studio reference curve developed by the company’s acoustics team. Standard Calibration is available for all DT-series studio headphones, while Factory Calibration (which uses original production measurement data from the exact headphone unit) is supported on selected models: including the DT 700 PRO X, DT 900 PRO X, DT 1770 PRO MkII and DT 1990 PRO MkII.
Additional controls allow users to fine-tune the listening experience, including adjustable ear spacing and head circumference, selectable virtual speaker angles (40°, 60°, or 80°) and optional room simulation to maintain a consistent reference when working in different environments.

HEADPHONE LAB is available as a free download for macOS and Windows, with support for VST3, AU, and AAX formats. It is compatible with all current beyerdynamic DT-series studio headphones and DT-series in-ear monitors.
