Neural DSP have unveiled Archetype: Cory Wong X, an amp simulator designed to capture the essence of Cory Wong’s signature clean and edge-of-break-up guitar tones. Known for his particular playing style and immaculate sound, Wong’s collaboration with Neural DSP results in a versatile suite that caters to players seeking pristine funk tones and dynamic effects.
Archetype: Cory Wong X offers a rich blend of pre-effects, amp models, cabsim tools, and post-effects to craft precise and expressive tones. The plug-in includes a set of pre effects such as The 4th Position Compressor, which nails Wong’s squishy, punchy playing style, and The Postal Service, a refined envelope filter for funk-driven sounds. The suite also features a wah pedal with Cory’s chosen sweep, which can be controlled as an autowah or via a separate MIDI foot controller pedal.
The amp section includes three models: D.I. Funk Console for direct, studio-quality tones, The Clean Machine for crisp, warm clarity, and The Amp Snob, offering everything from sparkling cleans to edge-of-breakup richness.
A cabsim module with six virtual microphones and over 300 impulse responses provides sonic flexibility, while features like a Room Reverb and Link/Unlink control further the creative possibilities. Post-effects, including a lush chorus, analogue-inspired delay and immersive reverb, round out the plugin’s tonal palette.
Archetype: Cory Wong X supports 64-bit VST2, VST3, AU, AAX formats and also runs standalone, with full macOS and Windows compatibility, including Native Apple Silicon support.
