New valve outboard from TL Audio

The Fat Man range returns at AES
TL Audio have resurrected the Fat Man name, launching two new affordable valve processors at the AES show in New York.

The original Fat Man 1, a hybrid solid-state/valve stereo compressor, and Fat Man 2, a single-channel preamp and compressor, were cost effective, easy to use and visually arresting, and consequenctly a big hit in home studios.

The new units have abandoned the Fat 1 and 2's squat, almost wedge-like shape for a more conservative 2U format, but have kept the familiar dark red colour scheme.

The 2 Fat (pictured above) is a straightforward remake of the Fat 2, providing a high-quality mic/instrument preamp and a compressor with 15 presets. There are input and output gain controls, threshold, ratio and make-gain controls for manual compressor operation, a VU meter and a 'Fat EQ' enhancer switch.

The Fat Funker (pictured below) is a little more unusual — it's designed as a valve front-end for guitar and bass, on stage or in the studio. Based on TL Audio's Ivory 5051 mono channel strip, it features a variable-impedance input, compressor, noise gate and four-band EQ.
