TL Audio’s Summing Mixer
The TL Audio Ebony series has already brought us a handful of desirable outboard processors, namely the A1 preamp/DI, the A2 stereo processor and the A3 channel strip. The latest addtion to the range is the Summer (also known as the A4), a 16:2 summing amp that fits into two units of rack space.

It’s got 16 mono inputs on both quarter-inch jack and D-Sub, a stereo output on XLRs, and balanced inserts on quarter-inch jacks. Interestingly, but perhaps unsurprisingly, the Summer has no input volume levels; instead it features the facility to switch the sensitivity of the inputs and outputs between -10dBu and +4dBu.
A tube stage can be inserted into the summed output path, and a Tube Warmth knob allows the circuit to be overdriven. The 16 front panel knobs are for setting the pan of each mono input, allowing the user to place them in the stereo field. The balanced stereo inserts allow a master bus compressor, for example, to be placed across the main output.
It’s due to ship later this year, costing £938 including VAT.
