The latest addition to Orchestral Tools’ FABRIK series has been created in collaboration with Belgian techno producer and live performer Peter Van Hoesen, and includes a selection of sounds created with modular synths and processed electric guitars and basses. Konduit is said to channel the energy and texture of electricity itself, providing film, TV and video game composers with a variety of musical moods and flavours.
The library comes loaded with 40 dual-layer patches that each combine synthesised and guitar-based layers that have been processed using a range of analogue outboard and modular effects systems. The guitar and bass parts feature randomly played articulations, causing the sound to change with every note triggered, and a range of unusual techniques were employed during the recording, such as playing the instruments with mallets and percussion brushes. Users are able to blend between synth and guitar sounds using the mod wheel, allowing each patch to offer a variety of continually morphing soundscapes.
Patches are divided into three categories: Surge, which concentrates on aggressive, distorted sounds; Charge, a collection of sounds that are described as dark and foreboding; and Spark, which features glitchy harmonics and random energy.
Music has been forever changed by the influence of electricity — from how it redefined the sounds of classic acoustic instruments to how it enabled us to create brand new sounds that had never been heard before. The magic of Konduit is exploring the concept literally and allowing us to add sounds to music composition that evoke the personality and feeling of electricity so overtly. It was an honour to collaborate with Peter Van Hoesen on this project and we’re thrilled to hear how these sounds inspire composers around the world.” - Hendrik Schwarzer, CEO, Orchestral Tools
