The latest addition to Orchestral Tools’ Creative Soundpacks series contains a range of percussion instruments played with traditional equipment and techniques, as well as a range of rather more unusual choices such as kitchen utensils and power tools. Illuvia - Dystopian Percussion Textures aims to live up to its name, delivering a variety of evolving, playable sounds that are said to be the ideal fit for dystopian film, TV and video game scores.
The library contains almost 100 performances, capturing skilled percussionists employing playing techniques that range from normal to obscure. Multiple dynamic layers provide plenty of range to each patch, and time-stretching allows the instruments to be played at a variety of different pitches. The results are described as organic, evolving soundscapes that combine textures, rhythms and resonances, with patches ranging from undulating pads to percussive plucks whose pitch and timbres change over time.
All of the patches feature either two or three microphone positions, and the Mic Merging feature of the company’s SINE host software allows users to consolidate their fine-tuned mix into a a single channel to preserve system resources.

Illuvia runs within Orchestral Tools’ SINE player, which is supported on PCs running Windows 10, and Macs running macOS 10.13 and higher. VST, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available, and there is also a standalone application.
