Roland have announced the release of the Zenology Pro Collection, a new software bundle that contains their Zenology Pro software synthesizer and all five optional Model Expansions.
Zenology Pro is the plug-in version of the ZEN-Core synthesis system — the same engine used in a range of their hardware synthesizers including the Jupiter-X and Fantom — and is based around discrete voices which each contain their own oscillator, filter, amplifier, LFO and effects sections. Multiple synthesis types are on offer, with vintage Roland oscillator models joined by PCM waves with sync and cross modulation functionality, and it is possible to layer up to four voices to create a huge range of complex sounds.
The Zenology Pro Collection bundles the core plug-in with five Model Expansions that use the engine to recreate a selection of iconic Roland instruments. The first delivers the sound of the much-loved Juno-106, covering everything from intense bass sounds through to shimmering pads, as well its famous built-in chorus effect. The Jupiter-8 then offers a range of classic pads, strings and lead tones.
Next up is the SH-201 which offers an enhanced feature set when compared to the original thanks to the addition of polyphonic operation, and the JD-800 also sees an upgrade, with its original waveforms combined with new, advanced modelling techniques. Lastly, the JX-8P sees the company reintroduce the sounds of the sought-after instrument for the first time, as well as integrating the editing functions provided by the companion PG-800 programmer.
The Zenology Pro Collection is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or 11, and Macs running macOS 11 and above. It is available in VST, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions.
