Focuses on creating dark, tension-building cues

The Very Loud Indeed Co. Outland Dark Scoring Drones Kontakt sample library

Outland: Dark Scoring Drones is the latest addition to The Very Loud Indeed Co.’s ever-expanding range of Kontakt-based sample libraries, and as its name suggests, comes packed with sounds well suited to crime, drama and horror scores.

Developed by veteran video game sound designer and The Very Loud Indeed Co. founder Richie Nieto, the library packs in 100 cinematic drones that have been crafted with tense, dramatic cues in mind. All of the patches respond to to velocity and aftertouch, and the library is kitted out with an array of sound-shaping tools including an envelope, filters, EQ and a built-in effects collection, allowing users to reshape the core sounds into anything from percussive pulses to pad and lead sounds. In fact, the company say that there’s enough variation on offer for users to score an entire project with just this one library.

Helpfully, all of the source sounds are also provided as WAV files, allowing them to be loaded directly into a DAW or other sampling platforms.

Compatibility

OUTLAND: Dark Scoring Drones runs in the full version of Native Instruments’ Kontakt 6.8 or later, which is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or 11, and Macs running macOS 10.14 and above. VST, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available along with a standalone application. The library requires 865 MB of disk space.

Pricing & Availability

OUTLAND: Dark Scoring Drones is available now, priced at $49.
