PlugInfo Audio Plug-In Explorer manager apple silicon compatibility

ThinkerSnacks is home to a number of music-related software projects developed by Kate Stone, a retired software developer who spent decades working for technology companies such as Microsoft, Apple and Amazon.

Among those projects is PlugInfo, which was initially developed to tackle the issue of plug-in compatibility with Apple’s latest in-house processors, namely whether they are natively supported or require translation via Rosetta. Capable of scanning thousands of installed plug-ins in a matter of seconds, the application presents a list of details including name, publisher, version, type, supported CPU architecture, publishing date and the amount of disk space occupied. A range of plug-in formats are supported, ranging from VST to Audio Unit and AAX, and also including the recently developed CLAP format.

The simple interface offers a variety of helpful features, with users able to sort by any column, and use built-in filtering tools to narrow down the list of plug-ins. Double-clicking a publishers name launches their website, and any number of plug-ins can be selected and have their locations revealed in a Finder window for backups, removals or relocations.

PlugInfo is being offered for free on the ThinkerSnacks website, but is available via Apple’s Mac App Store priced at $2.99 after many enquiries about how to send tips to the developer!
