When Polyverse announced the release of Filtron, their free filter plug-in, they said that it represented the second offering in their ‘filter trilogy’, adding a packed-down alternative to the more substantial Supermodal (reviewed here in SOS May 2023). Now, the company have announced the upcoming release of Filterverse, a versatile multi-mode offering that is currently available as a public beta.
The new plug-in comes loaded with a generous collection of filter types, each of which are the result of meticulous engineering and rigorous testing; traditional variants are joined by innovative new designs, and many of the modes are capable of being driven into self-oscillation and saturation. Users are able to load up to three filter types at once, with serial and parallel options — as well as a combination of the two — available via a dedicated Routing tab. Each loaded filter is also equipped with its own dry/wet balance, panning, polarity reversal and Mid-Side processing parameters.
There’s plenty of modulation on offer too: an editable sequencer/LFO function is joined by an ADSR envelope follower, a Randomizer, a Pitch Detector, a MIDI/CV input and an audio-rate oscillator. If that’s not enough, Polyverse’s signature Meta Knob control makes it possible to control multiple parameters with a single gesture, and sources are able to cross-modulate each other, offering a huge range of possibilities for keen sound designers.
The company say that every aspect of the plug-in has been designed to minimise distractions, and that the intuitive GUI offers clear visual feedback while eliminating the need for menu-diving.
“Polyverse has always strived to empower its users to focus primarily on creativity. Filterverse is third in the Polyverse Filter Trilogy, after Supermodal and Filtron. We believe we have thoroughly reimagined the filter plug-in — and also elevated the whole idea of the filter to a true musical tool one might reach for as quickly as a favourite synthesizer or guitar.” - Assaf Dar Sagol, founder of Polyverse
