Roland have expanded the Aerophone family with the launch of the Aerophone Brisa, a new flute-style digital wind instrument. Combining the straight, lightweight body and responsive keys of a traditional flute with the flexibility of the Aerophone platform, Brisa is designed for flautists, wind players and beginners alike.
Originally launched in 2016 with the AE-10, the Aerophone series now includes the AE-01 mini, AE-05 Aerophone GO, AE-20, and AE-30 Pro models. Until now, all of Roland’s digital wind instruments have been based around a saxophone-style layout. The Brisa marks the first alternative with a flute-style key arrangement, while still offering modes for saxophone and recorder players to adapt more easily.
The instrument uses Roland’s new SuperNATURAL Winds sound engine, designed to capture the nuances of different wind instruments and especially the articulations of flutists. The 100 onboard tones cover the full flute family alongside saxophones, clarinets, trumpets, orchestral strings, world instruments such as shakuhachi and pan flute, plus synths and drums for contemporary styles.
A dual breath sensor system provides natural control and introduces a unique octave-shifting technique by directing breath between two mouthpiece holes. Flute and trumpet fingering modes are included, alongside a dedicated Brisa mode designed for saxophone and recorder players as well as newcomers. Motion sensing allows for vibrato, pitch bend, and other expressive effects through simple body movements, while built-in harmony and drone features extend creative possibilities.
For practice and performance, Aerophone Brisa includes a rechargeable battery, built-in speaker, headphone output, USB-C audio/MIDI, and Bluetooth MIDI connectivity. A free Aerophone Brisa Plus companion app is due in Q4 2025, offering extended editing, Roland Cloud integration and visual fingering displays.
