Roland release Earth Electric Piano

Combines multi-sampling & modelling techniques

Roland Earth Electric Piano virtual instrument

The latest addition to Roland’s ever-growing collection of virtual instruments collates a diverse range of electric piano sounds and brings them together in a single interface. Combining detailed multi-sampling with proprietary modelling techniques, Earth Electric Piano promises to deliver a rich, natural-sounding experience which the company say provides users with their most expressive and dynamic electric piano sounds to date.

Included are recreations of instruments used on countless recordings and performances throughout contemporary music history. Tine- and reed-based pianos offer “timeless bell and woody timbres”, and are joined by an electric grand used extensively in the 1970s and 1980s and a Clavinet that boasts a “distinctively funky character”. There’s also a Vintage Digital category that includes a wealth of synth-based piano tones (including Roland’s RD-1000 and JD-800), classic FM voices and more.

There’s also a generous selection of onboard tone-shaping tools. Two preamp types make it possible to introduce everything from warm saturation to more pronounced overdrive sounds, while six tremolo variations serve to add some colour and movement. Twelve cabinet models are included, too, along with a direct signal option that offers a clean, unprocessed sound. Earth Electric Piano also allows users to introduce unique sonic characteristics from the original instruments, from electronic hum and hiss to mechanical key and damper noise.

A powerful Venue effect allows users to place the included instruments within nine spaces, with advanced convolution techniques simulating real locations such as a spacious cathedral, a world-class concert hall and intimate studio and lounge settings. There’s also a dedicated three-band EQ and multi-mode compressor, while more creative effects include 90 multi-effect combinations derived from Roland’s Zenology FX.
