Scaler 3.1 update from Scaler Music

Music theory plug-in updated

Scaler Music Scaler 3_1 music theory chord progression software plug-in

Three months on from the release of the latest version of their renowned music theory plug‑in, Scaler Music have launched an update that kits it out with some powerful new features. Scaler 3.1 benefits from new synchronisation features, improvements to the way chords and MIDI are handled and a number of other enhancements.

What’s New?

As of version 3.1, Scaler includes a new Live Sync feature that allows users keep the same Main Track chords between Leader and Follower instances of the plug-in, while a new Bass Follow motion makes quick work of creating a bass track that follows the lowest note of a chord. There are now also custom folders for chord sets, and with abilities such as Pinch To Zoom and Snap To Any Position, Scaler is easier to use and easier to navigate, especially for composers working on long projects.

The Chord Panel Display now shows input chords as they’re played, and there’s Drag and Drop Detection for both MIDI and audio, along with a more fluid arrangement for chords in the Main Track that offers more intuitive resizing and moving of chords, as well as muting for multiple chords. Scaler 3.1 also supports custom folder paths for hosting VST plug-ins, and supports ASIO drivers for Windows users.

User folders for chord sets can be created, renamed and deleted, and chord sets can be imported. The MIDI note editor has been tweaked, too, and now provides better support for moving and creating 16th notes, while a new Select All option in the ‘three dots’ menu makes it possible to select all chords at once.

Compatibility

Scaler 3.1  is supported on PCs running Windows 8 or higher, and Macs running macOS 10.14 and above. VST, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available, along with a standalone application.

Pricing & Availability

Scaler 3.1 is available now, and is currently (28 June 2025) being offered at an introductory price of $79, reduced from its full cost of $99. An upgrade from Scaler 2 costs $29.
