Sequential unveil the Fourm

Compact four-voice synth boasts polyphonic aftertouch

Sequential Fourm analogue four-voice polysynth polyphonic aftertouch

The latest addition to the Sequential line-up delivers the company’s most affordable synth to date, and also becomes the first of their instruments for 40 years to be equipped with polyphonic aftertouch. The Fourm is a compact four-voice instrument that features a 100% analogue signal path, and pairs the new custom-designed Tactive keybed with an intuitive knob-per-function top-panel layout.

Overview

The company say that the Fourm’s voices are derived from the Prophet 5, and feature a pair of oscillators along with their classic four-pole low-pass filter design and envelope curves that have been modelled after an original example from 1978. While plenty of classic Prophet sounds are on offer, the new arrival also includes a new feedback and drive circuit that can be used to push the instrument into more aggressive-sounding territory.

The top panel then boasts a simple knob-per-function layout, while the menu-free modulation matrix draws its inspiration from another Sequential classic, the Pro-One.

Polyphonic Aftertouch

The standout feature of the Forum is that despite being the most affordable Sequential synth to date, it comes equipped with polyphonic aftertouch. Thanks to a new Tactive keybed — a new design created by the Sequential team — the instrument is said to provide users with a wealth of expressive performance capabilities. Every element of the system has been designed to work in concert with the Fourm’s synth engine, with precise calibration promising to deliver an experience that no off-the-shelf alternative could match.

“We’re so excited to bring this innovative all-analogue keyboard into the world. At a price-point that most people expect to pay for a monophonic synth, we think this product will invite legions of musicians who have longed for the magic of polyphonic analogue sounds to start their journey of discovery with Sequential.” - David Gibbons, CEO, Sequential
