This year marks the 50th anniversary of Sequential, and as part of their ongoing celebrations, the iconic synth makers have announced the launch of the Prophet-10 Special Edition. The exclusive new instrument will see a run of just 150 units, each finished with stunning South American lacewood panelling.
The Prophet-10 is Dave Smith’s ten-voice version of the Prophet-5, the analogue polysynth that revolutionised the electronic music world. Renowned for its warm, organic and dynamic sound, the Prophet-10 combines all three versions of the Prophet-5, and features a Rev switch that allows users to choose between the two distinct filter designs used across the three revisions. Sequential's Vintage feature makes an appearance (a variable control designed to fine-tune the instrument’s character and introduce some the quirks associated with older analogue synths) along with a Poly Mod function that provides some timbral flexibility, and some expressive performance capabilities are provided by both velocity sensitivity and aftertouch functionality.
Electronically, the instrument is identical to the existing Prophet-10 Rev4, and the difference between the standard and Special Edition models lies entirely in the wooden casing. The company say that the use of the lacewood not only enhances the synth’s visual allure, but also honours their long-held tradition of using fine woods in classic analogue instruments. Due to its limited run, the Special Edition is said to offer a rare opportunity for discerning collectors. Each unit will be supplied with a certificate of authenticity recording its specific serial number and an embroidered dust cover.
