Tascam have announced the launch of a standalone 24-track hardware recorder designed to act as a seamless link between the analogue and digital worlds. The Studio Bridge supports direct recording to an SDXC card, and also features a built-in 24-in/24-out USB audio interface for integration with a DAW.
The Studio Bridge is capable of capturing up to 24 tracks of audio without the need for a computer, and also includes 24 outputs that make it possible to return the multitracks to an analogue console and outboard gear for mixing. All of the balanced analogue I/O is provided by DB25 connectors, and the device is capable of recording 16- or 24-bit WAV [BWF] files at sample rates of either 44.1kHz or 48kHz directly to an SDXC card (capacities up to 512GB are supported).
The device boasts a punch in/out recording mode that can be used across up to 10 tracks simultaneously, as well as a Track Swapping function that makes it possible to record to different tracks while retaining the same input settings. There’s also an Auto Monitor function for listening to the input or track signals via a built-in 2x80mW headphone amp. In addition to acting as a standalone recorder, the Studio Bridge will also function as a 24-in/24-out USB audio interface, making it possible to route all of its tracks to and from a DAW system.

There’s a useful onboard metronome with a dedicated audio Click output designed to help keep performers in time with previously recorded tracks. Thanks to a built-in USB MIDI interface, it’s possible to sync the Studio Bridge via the MIDI Timecode (MTC) output and MIDI clock output with Song Position Pointer, making it an ideal partner for MIDI-capable instruments and drum machines. The transport buttons offer control over most DAW’s Play, Stop, Record and Track Arm functions (via HUI and MCU protocols) and a software control panel for both Mac and Windows systems provides some extra bonus features, including meter bridge functionality.
