Native Instruments have added a new sample library to their Session Guitarist range. Session Guitarist: Picked Nylon is based, as you'd expect, on a nylon-strung guitar played with a plectrum, and was developed in collaboration with software instrument specialists Drumasonic.
The instrument used to make it was built by master guitar-maker Lisa Weinzierl, and exhibits “rich textures and timbres” that NI say make it ideal for a host of genres, including flamenco, bossa nova, jazz and classical. Six microphone positions were captured, and NI have used their Kontakt engine to add realism in the form of mod-wheel controllable vibrato, algorithmically generated fret noises, and even the sound of a guitarist breathing. All told, there are 6.4GB of samples, covering over 200 patterns and 49 complete songs. It requires the free Kontakt Player (v6.6 or higher) to run, and is available to buy now for £89.
