Shure are certainly no strangers to the world of live sound, and you’ll find their microphones pointed at just about everything on stages from the smallest back-room gigs to the largest arenas. The humble SM58 has enjoyed immense popularity since its introduction in 1966, and there can be very few vocalists or engineers who haven’t encountered one at some point in their careers! The latest addition to the company’s vocal line-up is the Nexadyne, which promises to deliver enhanced clarity thanks to an innovative new dual-transducer design.
Available in cardioid (NXN8/C) and supercardioid (NXN8/S) versions, the mics rely on a new patented Revonic Dual Transducer Technology, which employs two precisely matched transducers that in Shure’s words “work together to provide a greater range of acoustic optimisation, maximising specific frequencies and minimising unwanted noise, especially handling noise and mechanical vibration”.
The benefit for engineers is that the Nexadyne’s flatter frequency response mean that less work is needed in terms of EQ, while a more controlled polar pattern across the frequency range helps to combat feedback and ensure that off-axis sounds retain a more natural tone. As you’d expect from Shure, the mics have been designed to stand up to life on the road.
“Nexadyne is the next chapter of Shure’s storied history as the leader and innovator in dynamic microphone technology. With built-in acoustic signal processing, the Nexadyne platform ushers in a new era of modern live performance that engineers and vocalists can trust on stage night after night.” - Nick Wood, Senior Director of Professional Audio Products, Shure
As well as being available as standard handheld models, capsule-only options of both the NXN8/C and NXN8/S can be purchased for use with Shure’s range of wireless systems. Later in 2024, the company will be offering bundles with their Axient Digital, ULX-D, QLX-D and SLX-D wireless microphone ranges.
