The latest addition to Slate Digital’s range of modelling microphones offers a matched pair of small-diaphragm capacitor mics that pair up with the company’s VMS plug-in to deliver faithful recreations of an array of popular designs.
The mics employ premium components throughout, and improve upon the original ML-2 design, boasting an expanded dynamic range and promising to deliver “refined sonic detail”. A -20dB pad and high-pass filter switches help to handle high-SPL and sources, and the mics come supplied with a mounting bar for convenient setting up of coincident and near-coincident stereo arrays.
Combined with the VMS plugin, the ML-2A is capable of replicating the sound of a huge selection of classic, modern and popular ‘workhorse’ microphones that include both favoured studio essentials as well as more rare and unique models. Zero-latency processing allows for easy auditioning of sounds while recording, as well as providing users with the ability to experiment with different modelled mics during the mixing process.
VMS currently comprises 27 microphone models and counting, including recreations of classics from the likes of Shure, Sennheiser, Neumann, Royer and more. models can be mixed, matched or blended as needed, and its even possible to modify the proximity effect to further adjust the tone. Additional colour and vintage saturation can also be added via the Virtual Preamps Collection, offering a complete in-the-box front-end recording experience.
