Developed by Channel Robot, the latest addition to Tracktion’s range of virtual instruments features a four-voice engine that’s been designed to create immersive, atmospheric soundscapes. Aimed at cinematic compositions, Atmosia 3 brings together over 700 sound sources, and has been treated to a ground-up overhaul that includes a fresh new GUI.
A key change comes in the form of the instrument’s interface, which now features a main page that provides instant access to its envelopes, filters, modulation and effects; more in-depth tweaking can be carried out from Effects, Arps and MODs pages. Per-voice control has been expanded, with Atmosia 3 now boasting full ADSR envelopes, dedicated filter envelopes, tremolo (volume) and vibrato (pitch) modulation, field effects, flexible send routing and customisable pitch-bend ranges. It’s also possible to assign different note ranges to individual voices thanks to a new keyboard split function.
Central to the instrument’s interface is a large X-Y pad, which has also been treated to some improvements. New Horizontal and Vertical Offset controls make it possible to shift existing recorded modulation paths whilst maintaining their overall shape, and as with all parameters, can also be modulated themselves. A new Transit Modulator (LFO) replaces the previous version’s static timer, allowing tempo-sync’d morphing between a patch’s four sound sources
The onboard effects count has risen significantly from eight to 28 modules, which include a new ring-modulation filter. Per-voice arpeggiators now support multiple play directions, chord playback and probability controls, while improvements to the modulation system include dedicated LFOs for every core parameter along with six assignable Mod LFOs.
