VM202 convolution guitar processor

Back in the June 2010 issue of SOS, we reviewed the Torpedo VB101, an interesting convolution-based guitar processor from French outfit Two Notes. Now the same company have announced their second product in the Torpedo range, the VM202. Essentially, the newcomer could be thought of as two VB101s in one, in that it houses two convolution engines, but there are some other neat features included as well. The main benefit given by Two Notes for having a second convolution engine is that it allows you to combine multiple mic positions. For example, you could use one impulse response of an SM57 against the grille, and combine it with the sound of a more distant condenser mic — which would previously have required two VB101s to achieve. Of course, you could also use the impulse response of a completely different cabinet altogether, and run two cabinet simulations at the same time. Two Notes Torpedo VM202

But the other enhancements are just as enticing. Where the previous version acted as a dummy load, and so required you to use both a preamp and power amp, the new version also has valve power-stage modelling. Both Class-A and Class-AB models are available, and the user can choose between the sounds of four different power-stage valves, including EL84, EL34 and 6V6.

No price was available at the time of writing, but we expect to find out soon, so watch this space!
