The latest instrument to join UVI’s range aims to capture the sound of one of the world’s most iconic analogue synths, the ARP Odyssey. HX-ODDY has been modelled on the original white-face MkI version of the instrument, and also includes some new features that expand on its original capabilities.
The company have deeply sampled an original instrument and say that HX-ODDY offers a faithful recreation of its classic sound, but it’s also been kitted out with a pair of hardware-based wavetable layers and physically modelled filters. As a result, the instrument provides users with three sample layers to work with and offers a wider range of sounds than were possible on the hardware instrument, as well as providing more in-depth control. Alongside its modelled filters, oscillators and envelopes, the instrument comes equipped with a powerful arpeggiator and phraser section that can be used to create sequences, as well as a selection of built-in effects and macro controls.
A collection of 280 factory presets provide a huge range of basses, brass-like sounds, keys, leads, pads sequences and effects, and include a bank dedicated to sounds from the original instrument’s factory patch book. Of course, it’s possible to modify the existing patches as well as saving your own custom presets.
